Mascara Wands - A Deep Dive

Knowing what kind of mascara to use is a constant struggle for modern babes - there are SO many to choose from. But one of the most underrated elements on whether you will love or hate a mascara comes down to the mascara wand!

So, we’re sharing some industry knowledge so you have everything you need to know about mascara wands. To start, there are two ways to approach mascara wands - by purpose or eyelash type. Let’s dive into both!

Our Mascara Wands

Babe Original Babe Lash Mascara Wands

Volumizing Wands

- Cone-shaped, jumbo-sized, or hourglass-shaped
- Holds lots of product and adds mega-volume to the lash base
- As seen on Volumizing Mascara

      Lengthening Wands

      - Curved shape
      - Precise coverage of the product from root to tip
      - Curve aids in curling and lifting for a lengthened effect
      - As seen on Enriching Mascara

      Eyelash Types

Are your lashes curvy or straight? Thick or sparse? Long or short? Using a mascara wand suited to your eyelash type could make the difference between loving it or not!

      Curly, Dense LashesCurly, dense lashes.

      - The large bristles apply more mascara to your thick lash line
      - Try a cone-shaped or curved brushfor optimal application

      Short, Fine Lashes

      Short, fine lashes.

      - Use a thin, fine-toothed mascara brush to get close to your lash line
      - A curved applicator can add curl and flare for a cat-eye effect
      - Want to enhance your lashes even more? Try using a Lash Serum!

      Sparse Lashes

      Sparse Lashes

      - Use a cone-shaped wand
      - Adds extra volume to the base of the lash line
      - For some extra lash line love, try a Lash Conditioner

Remember - it’s not just the brush, and it’s not just the formulation; it’s finding the perfect combo that’s just right for you that can make or break a mascara! Do you have a fav wand type or shape that isn’t listed here? Drop it in the comments down below!

Your blogs really help, I never knew that there was a difference in the types of mascara wands! I always thought it was the type of mascara that made the difference. No wonder I never get the results I was looking for! I have fine lashes on the shorter side. Thank you for teaching me the difference ❤️babelash!!!!

I have long lashes but they’re straight… and don’t really stand out without some assistance. I prefer some kind of volumizing formula with a large mascara brush.

Im in love with the lash serum. My lashes were long, but this serum made them extra long, with a natural curl. I need to try the brow serum, it has to do wonders if the lash serum is a God!!

I’ve always struggled to actually make it apparent that I’m wearing mascara. I usually focus on volumizing and lengthening mascara with a jumbo sized or hourglass shape want, sometimes even a curved one. This article helped me identify that my lashes are more straight than curly and I should really be using a curved, thin mascara wand. Thanks, Babe Lash!

My go to is Latisse. I use both the Babe Lash serum and moisturizer, which makes my lashes long and is my go to. Unfortunately, my lashes in the outside corner of my right eye are super kinky and curly and it is horrible to try and apply mascara. I really could use some advise and a great mascara that will help all of my needs.

That’s interesting. I’m still curious as to which category I fall under. My lashes aren’t necessarily thick nor thin. I was on a medication for a long time that actually made me lose the majority of my lashes. It’s been a few years and they still aren’t completely “full” yet. The annoying part is they grow in every direction and it’s really hard to find a mascara that helps correct that issue. I have purchased well over 50 different mascaras since then and some help a little but nothing that really made me purchase again. By reading this I can completely understand why some didn’t work and it’s because they weren’t meant for my style of lashes. Interesting read to say the least! I’m hoping if my lashes ever grow back completely that I will find the perfect mascara! Thanks for the information, truly appreciate it!

I did not know there were eye lash types! I was using Pacifica, but it was so expensive. So I tried getting a cheaper mascara and I hate it!!! It clumps up and does not give my lashes volume (or anything). I’m still using it as I am NOT going to waste money. I have very short fine lashes. Sometimes I can’t even tell I have any!

I didn’t know what each wand did, but did know some worked better for my thin straight-ish lashes. I actually took a wand from one mascara and tried to fit it in another because the wand workeded better. I got it in the tube but couldn’t get it out :/

I used to use an eyelash curler but I don’t so much anymore. Reason being that I don’t want to just curl my lashes I want them to look longer and fuller.

Such a great article that really breaks down what type of brush to use and why! For years, I would just try different mascaras until I found what I liked, but without ever really understanding why. This is really helpful. I personally preorder larger and curved brushes for Volumizing but to also get underneath lashes easily. I like a thinner brush for lower lashes.
