How to Care for Your Lips

Lip Care is the New Self-Care

Dry lips are a serious no-no, which is why we’re going to teach you how to make that a thing of the past.

First thing’s first - you need to understand why your lips are drying out. Unlike other parts of your body, your lips cannot hydrate themselves - this means they need other sources of moisture to keep them lush and nourished.

Second reason for dryness - licking your lips. When your lips feel dry, it’s hard to resist that weird impulse to wet them with your tongue. BUT since your saliva is full of digestive enzymes, it actually can dry out your skin, causing the lips to crack and bleed. Yikes.

Third - look at your environment! Babes in humid climates are less likely to have their skin dry out than those in desert or cold weather climates. Gotta compensate for that difference!

Now that you’re up-to-date on why dry-as-the-desert lips are happening to you, we can tell you how to keep them looking and feeling fab!

Your Babe Lip Care Routine

Babe Glow Am/PM Lip Routine

AM Lip Care

Your AM routine is pretty simple. After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you’ll apply a super-hydrating lip product. You’ll want to use something that has sodium hyaluronate and maybe some Vitamin E to start your day with serious moisture.

When you go out for the day, be sure to keep a moisturizing lip product with you, so you don’t find yourself licking your lips. Need a product rec? Try the Babe Plumping Lip Jelly - hydration, vitamins, plumping effect, and a hint of color (or not, if you’re a Clear stan).

PM Lip Care

Your PM lip care routine is going to be slightly different each day. If your lips have gotten a bit peely, you’ll want to use a gentle exfoliator before going in with your lip mask.

When it comes to exfoliating, it’s really important to be gentle and not exfoliate too frequently. You just want to loosen the dead skin - not hurt the fresh skin underneath! For a Babe-approved exfoliation, we recommend using our reusable Scrub Stick once a week or a few times a month. Exfoliating your lips with a scrub stick is super easy. Wet the brush and use gentle, circular motions across the surface of your lips for about a minute before rinsing and moving on to the next step.Babe Tip: before exfoliating, apply the Babe Lip Mask to soften the lips and then scrub away all of the softened, flaking skin before wiping off the lips. Don't forget - after exfoliating, your lips will need rehydration ASAP.

With clean lips, you’ll apply a hydrating, overnight lip mask before going to bed. You’ll want to use your lip mask every night, regardless of whether you have exfoliated or not. The Babe GlowLip Maskis a personal favorite. It’s full of yummy ingredients that are going to give your skin the love it deserves. Side note: it’s scentless - so you don’t have to worry about a strong smell distracting you when you’re trying to catch your Zzzs.

I’ve been a HUGE fan of Exfoliating for years! This article was incredibly informative and a little tip to share- I use the plumping lip jelly along with a very nice lip moisturizer at night, & I wake up with already plump pout! I don’t really need to keep reapplying throughout the day but it’s usually after lunch when I do reapply! Love this company. Can’t wait 4 the lip mask! My lashes are FOREVER grateful!?! & So are my lips! Thank you BABE LASH 4 REAL RESULTS

I recently started taking more time to fully care for my lips and it’s crazy how much improvement I’ve seen already. Less cracking and peeling. Lipstick looks smoother. I think that adding some exfoliation will be helpful for me, too, since I have dry skin.

I so need to be better about exfoliation and hydration — especially since learning lips don’t have many layers of skin and don’t produce oil. And SPF too!! I am slacking for sure! Thank you for this helpful article, Babe Lash!

This is so true and we have been reminded of how important lips are after a year and a half of wearing masks. The lips are ready to be free and get the spotlight back. My lips always feel so much better after giving them a good exfoliation and then applying product.
